The late Ghanaian highlife giant, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, died on July 26, 2025, after reportedly battling a brief illness.

The "Aben Wo Ha" hitmaker died at the age of 60.

Behind Daddy Lumba’s fame was a woman who played a key role in shaping the legend he became. That woman was Nana Konadu, also known as Theresa Abebrese — his high school sweetheart and first love.

Nana Konadu was a business student, while Lumba studied General Arts at Juaben SHS. The two lovebirds were of the same age.

From the moment they met, Theresa changed Daddy Lumba’s life completely, buying him provisions, clothes, toiletries, and anything else to make him feel comfortable.

She played a significant role in launching his music career.

Both Theresa and Lumba were brilliant students, making them a standout couple on campus.

Daddy Lumba credits success to Theresa Abrebrese

Daddy Lumba always expressed his appreciation for Theresa and even dedicated a song to her.

Theresa was generous and cared for Daddy Lumba deeply, even funding his trip from Ghana to Germany after high school, a major stepping stone in his music breakthrough.

Their relationship began in high school, and although they never got married, they remained connected until death separated them.

It is said that Theresa had a crush on Lumba in school, but he didn’t believe it until she made the first move.

Lumba often credited his success to Theresa, saying there would have been no Daddy Lumba without her. She was also the one who convinced him to travel abroad in search of greener pastures.

Eventually, Nana Konadu and Charles Kojo Fosu separated amicably. Lumba once described Theresa as “Godsent” and said she came into his life for a purpose.

Nana Konadu's death

Nana Konadu, aka Theresa Abebrese, passed away in 2017 after a short illness. Eight years later, Daddy Lumba has joined her in the afterlife, reuniting once again.

Counselor Lutterodt slams Serwaa Amihere

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Counselor Lutterodt criticised broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere for announcing Daddy Lumba’s demise.

Serwaa, who was known to be close to Daddy Lumba and acted as his promoter and friend, was heartbroken by the news.

However, according to the counselor, it was wrong for her to break the news. He argued that the family should have been the first to confirm and announce Daddy Lumba’s passing, not Serwaa Amihere.
