In a video shared by GHOne TV, the chief executive officer of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited was spotted at the premises of the Court of Appeal with his legal team after his application for a stay of proceedings in the ongoing criminal trial was dismissed.
The businessman had changed beyond recognition as he debuted a new look, different from his regular look. In the video, he had gained massive weight and got a trimmed low-cut hairstyle with his beard carefully shaped.
Nana Appiah Mensah has kept a low profile and has only made public appearances in the courts since he and his Menzgold company were embroiled in an alleged fraud and money laundering case in 2019.
Court dismisses NAM1's appeal to halt trial
In his latest appearance before the Court of Appeal, NAM1's application to halt his trial was dismissed. The application was filed pending a decision on his appeal challenging a High Court ruling that ordered him to open his defence.

In 2024, the High Court directed Mensah to open his defence in a criminal case in which he faces multiple charges, including the sale of gold without a license, fraudulent breach of trust, defrauding by false pretence, and money laundering.
His legal team subsequently filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn the High Courtโs ruling.
Alongside the appeal, they applied to stay proceedings at the High Court pending the outcome of the appeal.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, state prosecutors urged the appellate court to dismiss the application, arguing that it was an attempt to overreach the powers of the court and failed to establish any exceptional circumstances to justify a stay of proceedings.
Nana Appiah Mensah, however, has indicated that he is considering a further appeal to the Supreme Court, based on legal advice from his counsel.
