A gospel singer, Gina Asante, has ignited a big online conversation after questioning the legacy of prolific musician Daddy Lumba.

The highlife veteran, known in private life as Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away in Accra on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

His death was announced by his legal representative, Fati Ali Yallah, who issued an official statement representing his family.

The statement indicated that Daddy Lumba had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital following a brief illness.

The death of the music legend has plunged Ghana into deep grief, with notable personalities across the nation, including President John Mahama, expressing their condolences.

As many continue to discuss the life and legacy of Daddy Lumba, Gina Asante has seemingly downplayed the deceased's impact and legendary status.

Gospel singer questions Daddy Lumba's legacy

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Asante, also a presenter with Pent TV, where she hosts a musical programme, suggested that no one deserved to be called a legend if their craft disturbed a nation's morality.

"Write profane songs and dance with half-naked women to disturb the morality of the nation, and they call you a legend!"

Before the controversial post, she had wondered about the impact of secular musicians and questioned why some call them legends.

She further asked her followers to give their responses to the question.

"For those who hail and call secular musicians legends let’s list their impact. 1…," she wrote.

Daddy Lumba fans blast Gina Asante

The posts by Gina Asante has triggered social media and at the time of filing this report, both posts had received more than 1,800 comments.

While she did not mention any names, many of those connected the posts to Daddy Lumba and blasted her for trying to belittle his legacy.
