Daddy Lumba passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, throwing Ghana into mourning.
He passed away at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been transported to after falling ill at home.
The highlife legend, who transcended generations with his music, was widely regarded as Ghana’s greatest musician.
Paul Gee bashes Lumba over purported debt
Paul Gee, a renowned Kumawood movie producer, has opened up on an alleged debt Daddy Lumba owed him.
In an interview seen by YEN.com.gh, he claimed that he entered into a deal with the late musician that was not honoured.
He alleged that he paid Lumba GH₵ 40,000 in 2012 for the rights to sell his Legacy and Legacy Ball appearance on DVD.
Paul Gee said after he made payment, Daddy Lumba sold the rights to another producer without refunding his money.
He said over the years, he made multiple attempts to retrieve his money to no success.
The producer stated that he plans to visit Lumba’s family to inform them to settle the debt before the singer is buried.

Joy Industries CEO refuses to mourn Lumba
Paul Gee’s claims followed a similar allegation from the CEO of Joy Industries, Manfred Takyi.
In a post shared on social media after Daddy Lumba's death, Takyi alleged that the singer received cash and a vehicle from him to promote his company’s products but never fulfilled his end of the bargain.

He said due to their history, he feels no obligation to feel sad over the musician's death.

In a chat with YEN.com.gh, Ghanaian musician Kay Dizzle said such issues are always dicey if a written agreement was not signed.
"If Paul Gee has any written proof of this supposed deal, he should go to the Lumba family for a resolution. Without any written agreement, he is in a very tight spot, especially as Lumba himself is dead and gone. If he's lucky and the family are aware of the deal, then they can reach a negotiated settlement. But in such cases, written agreements should always be signed as they are the most enforceable legally." he said.

MPs sing Daddy Lumba’s songs in Parliament

In a moment that warmed hearts online, several parliamentarians from both political parties paid tribute to the late highlife singer.
The legislators also bantered over the hidden meanings in Daddy Lumba’s songs, with one MP jabbing the majority caucus by referencing Lumba’s song Yɛ Ne Wo Sere Kwa, suggesting that the majority merely smile on the surface but lack sincerity.
