Highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, died on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He was 60.

He fell ill at his home and was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his ailment.

Daddy Lumba's family confirmed his death in a statement released July 26.

""With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana's beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness."

The statement praised Daddy Lumba for his impact on Ghanaian music.

"Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience," it added.

After the late singer’s death, a YouTube blogger visited his mother’s hometown of Nsuta Ekuo to show the state of his childhood home.

The dilapidated state of his mother’s village house stirred debate on social media, with some people claiming the singer had abandoned his roots after becoming rich.

Amid the debate over Daddy Lumba’s childhood home, a mansion he constructed for his mother in Kumasi has surfaced online.

According to Daddy Lumba’s sister, Faustina Fosu, the highlife great constructed the edifice in their mother’s honour.
