According to a press release, the operation was a joint effort between the EOCO and US authorities.
They traced the yellow Lamborghini Urus to a major fraud case involving a Ghanaian man, identified as Nana Kwabena Amuah, who was convicted in the United States.
Amuah had been sentenced to prison and ordered to pay back millions of dollars. The Lamborghini Urus found at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco was suspected to be one of the assets purchased with stolen funds.
According to the EOCO, the SM Movement CEO was cooperative and surrendered the car without resistance after initially requesting that the case be handled privately.
Although Shatta Wale was not arrested or formally charged, according to the BBC, he was named and tagged as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.
The officers who stormed his house during the seizure were part of a special recovery team, which the EOCO stated was standard protocol.
Shatta Wale blasts EOCO after Lamborghini seizure
Shatta Wale, known for his controversial nature and strong social media comments, did not take the seizure and raid on his house lightly.
He later took to social media, expressing his frustration and accusing EOCO boss Raymond Archer of intimidation.
He claimed he had no connection to the fraud suspect, Nana Kwabena Amuah, and had bought the car legally.
In his defence, Shatta Wale argued that the seizure was uncalled for and politically motivated, warning that it could affect the public’s support for the NDC in the upcoming election.
The Lamborghini Urus remains in the EOCO’s custody, with a formal request pending from the US to repatriate the vehicle.
