Kwame Bee, the Programs Manager for the renowned media house Kasapa FM, has recounted a moment on the radio when he risked his job by playing highlife legend Daddy Lumba's song Aben Woha.

Kwame Bee recounts a Lumba story
As tributes continue to pour in following Daddy Lumba's death, many fans, media personalities, and dignitaries are sharing memories of the highlife legend's influence on their lives and careers.
One such reflection came from Kwame Bee, who shared a personal story that has captivated many. According to him, back in 2004, he nearly lost his job at Volta Star Radio for playing Daddy Lumba’s hit song “Aben Woha”.
In an exclusive on Kasapa FM, he mentioned that despite the GBC's directive not to play Lumba's song, he noted that he went ahead anyway. Explaining further, he stated that the icon's songs always spoke to the people.
“In 2004, I almost lost my job at Volta Star Radio when I played Daddy Lumba’s ‘Aben Woha.’ The song was hot, and so was the reaction. But I had to play it—Lumba’s music speaks to people,” Kwame Bee said.

Aftermath of Lumba's passing
Since the highlife legend’s passing on July 26, 2025, Ghanaians at home and abroad have continued to honour his memory.
A national vigil was held at Black Star Square on August 2, drawing thousands of fans, Daddy Lumba's children, family members, and dignitaries. Attendees lit candles and sang along to his timeless classics. Ghanaians abroad also hosted a candlelight vigil to honour the late highlife legend.
Meanwhile, a steady stream of mourners continues to visit the late Lumba’s East Legon residence to commiserate with his family. Among them are celebrities, former heads of state, political figures, fellow musicians, and fans, many of whom hold a story of how Lumba’s music touched their lives.
