ECG Releases List of Areas to be Affected by Dumsor From Maintenance, Ashanti Features Heavily
- The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced power supply disruptions in parts of the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions

The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced some planned maintenance works scheduled for July 11, 2025, in parts of the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
The company noted that power supply would be interrupted in affected areas for several hours while maintenance teams carry out essential upgrades on power infrastructure.

In the Greater Accra Region, the planned outage would take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and would impact Glefe, Wiaboman, and surrounding communities.
In the Ashanti Region, Graphic Online reported that many more communities would be affected from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The areas include Atwima Agogo, Mfensi, Mankranso, Kunsu, Sepaase, Nkawie, Mpasaetia, Abuakwa, Abakomade, Kasapreko, Asonomaso, Pokukrom, part of Tanoso, Manhyia, Koforidua, Tabre, Ntensere, Afari, Seidi, Nerebehi, Hiawu-Besease, Boatenkrom, Bonkwaso, Asempanaye, Asakraka, Kontomire, and surrounding communities.
The Electricity Company of Ghana apologised for the inconvenience and urged affected customers to take the necessary precautions during the outage period.
Recent power disruptions from ECG
In May, parts of the Greater Accra and Tema regions endured power cuts because of maintenance work by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
The Electricity Company of Ghana apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured the public that the maintenance work is necessary to enhance overall service delivery.
The Electricity Company of Ghana had a similar disruption due to maintenance on March 11 and March 12, 2025. These maintenance activities affected power in the Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern regions.
Earlier in May, a part of the Electricity Company of Ghana's Achimota Bulk Supply Point Station ‘H’ was gutted by fire, leading to power cuts.
Electricity tariffs to go up again
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission raised electricity tariffs for all categories of consumers by 2.45% from July 1, 2025. This increase in tariffs came during the commission's quarterly review.
In a statement, the commission said it considered key economic variables including the cedi-to-dollar exchange rate, inflation, natural gas prices, and the electricity generation mix between hydro and thermal sources.

According to the commission, these factors significantly impact the cost of delivering utility services and must be reviewed regularly to sustain the financial health of service providers.
In May, Electricity tariffs increased by an average of 14.75%, while water tariffs went up by 4.02% that time around.
Earlier warning of power disruption
YEN.com.gh also reported that Ghana is set to experience some power disruption on July 13 due to rehabilitation work by gas supplier ENI.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition announced this temporary disruption, saying it was part of measures to increase gas production.
Explaining the situation to consumers, Minister John Jinapor said this rehabilitation would lead to more efficient gas supply in the long run.
