19 Casualties Recorded After Road Crash at Senya Bonsuoku in the Central Region

Four people are in a critical condition following a road crash at Senya Bonsuoku in the Central Region.
The July 15 road crash also left 15 other passengers injured.

Adom News reported that victims were taken to the Hope Christian Hospital in Gomoa Fetteh, the Senya Breku Polyclinic and the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.
According to a survivor, the two sprinter buses collided head-on at Bonsuoku on the Gomoa Ojobi-Senya Breku road.
An eyewitness recounted that a large noise was heard from the crash site, prompting nearby residents to respond to the incident to offer support to the victims.
According to the Senya Bereku District Police Commander, DSP Kingsley Asante, preliminary investigations by the police suggest the crash could have been caused by poor weather conditions and a lack of concentration on the part of one of the drivers.
Recent road crashes in Ghana
On July 9, a road crash in Adanwomaso in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region claimed three lives, including two police officers.
Adom News reported that the crash involved a bullion van and a truck carrying bags of cement.
Four of the victims, including two police officers, were onboard the bullion van in which only the driver survived.
On June 25, a collision between a VIP bus and a cargo truck on the Accra-Kumasi Highway claimed several lives and left dozens hospitalised.
The accident occurred near Oframase, close to Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality. The bus collided with an oncoming cargo truck loaded with flour.
Recent road crashes involving VIP buses
VIP buses have been known to be involved in some of the high-profile road crashes in Ghana because of their popularity.
A crash between a VIP Jeoun bus and a Mercedes-Benz on the Abuakwa-Sunyani highway resulted in eight deaths.
The accident occurred on Monday, June 23, 2025. The Mercedes-Benz driver reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle at high speed, leading to the crash.
According to eyewitness accounts, the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

The VIP bus, which was travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi, sustained major damage to its front and top sides, while the Mercedes-Benz was destroyed.
Emergency responders reportedly arrived at the scene promptly and rescued several people, but unfortunately, seven passengers on the VIP bus were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz also lost his life.
Photos from the accident scene showed the red VIP Jeoun bus with a caved-in roof, broken windows, and parts of the car scattered across the scene.
Concerns for road safety in Ghana
Between January and September 2024, 1,817 lives were lost through road crashes, which was an 8.35% increase on the 1,677 lives lost during the same period in 2023.
The National Road Safety Authority also noted that the total number of road crashes decreased, with 9,820 incidents, representing a 7.48% drop from 10,614 in 2023.
From January to September 2024, 11,408 individuals sustained injuries in road crashes, down from 11,694 in the same timeframe in 2023.
Additionally, 1,750 pedestrians were struck in 2024, compared to 1,847 in 2023. GBC News reported on this data in December 2024.
Police officer laid to rest
A 23-year-old police officer killed in Binduri was laid to rest.
A video captured colleagues of the constable paying final tributes to their fallen comrade, leaving many people emotional.
Social media users who took to the comments section of the heartbreaking video bade farewell to the fallen officer.
One person dead in crash near UCC
YEN.com.gh reported on a fatal crash near the University of Cape Coast’s second gate involving a tipper truck and three vehicles.
One pedestrian lost their life, while another was hospitalised after reportedly being struck by the truck.
The incident stirred public concern and reignited discussions about road safety in Ghana.
