Some workers told UTV that two excavators used for the demolition exercise initially broke down before the operation could proceed.

They noted that the warehouse also served as their place of shelter and begged the people carrying out the demolitions.

"We were here when they came with excavators. We begged them to allow us take out our items from the warehouse because this is where we sleep, but they said no, that it was too late. We told them again that this is where we sleep, but they started demolishing the place.

"I am the security man here. We were around at about 6:28 P.M. when the soldiers arrived in two pickups. We had no idea they were here to demolish the building."

Videos of the demolition were shared online with speculation about the reasoning. Some attributed the demolition to National Security.

Three senior officials of the McDan Group were picked up by National Security operatives following the demolition.

Citi News reported that officials were taken into custody shortly after the demolition.

The demolition site has been designated a National Security Zone by personnel stationed there.

The demolition is believed to be linked to a legal dispute over the ownership of the land between McDan Group and the Airport Company of Ghana.

McDan Aviation dismissed $3 million claim

YEN.com.gh reported that McDan Aviation explained that $2 million of the debt it owes is tied to a piece of land purchased from GACL, which was under litigation.

He explained that after GACL had sold them the land, a third party had acquired it and registered it at the Land Commission.

However, despite the development, the GACL has allegedly been adamant about collecting hefty land rights from McDan Aviation despite the legal challenge.
