The operators of DStv said they would not be able to reduce subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George.
Multichoice indicated that it will keep the subscription fees as low as possible, but the Minister's suggestion is not tenable.

In a statement signed by Alex Okyere, Managing Director of DSTV Ghana and issued on Sunday, August 3, 2025, it stated that explained why Sam George's proposal is not feasible.
“MultiChoice values its subscribers and endeavours at all times to keep DStv subscription fees as low as possible, despite the extremely challenging competitive and macro-economic environment in which we operate, without compromising on customer choice and the quality of the services we offer,” the statement read.
The statement added that even though there is an ongoing endeavour to engage the Minister, he has taken a stance that they do not seem happy about.
"“It is regrettable that the Honourable Minister has taken this stance, notwithstanding our ongoing endeavours to engage with the Honourable Minister candidly and in good faith on this important matter. In an effort to arrive at a resolution, we have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the National Communications Authority on an alternative further engagement avenue."
Even though the company acknowledged the recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against major currencies, it is not tenable to reduce the price.
“It is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister,” it stated, stressing that it has never referred to the cedi’s appreciation as a “fluke.”
Having operated in Ghana for over 30 years, MultiChoice said it remained mindful of the impact a potential impasse could have on its workforce and partners.

MultiChoice concluded by reiterating its commitment to lawful operations and constructive dialogue with the relevant authorities.
“MultiChoice remains committed to constructive engagement with the Honourable Minister and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in Ghana and trusts that the authorities will do likewise,” the statement concluded.
The statement by DSTV comes after Sam George issued an August 7 ultimatum for DSTV to reduce their prices to reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi or have its broadcasting licence suspended by the National Communications Authority.

Jubilee House TVs limited to local channels
YEN.com.gh reported that President John Mahama cancelled DStv and satellite TV subscriptions at Ghana's seat of government.
This was done as part of the measures implemented to cut down government expenditure.
According to the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, they would extend similar policy to all state institutions across the country.
