Ghana is in mourning after a fatal military helicopter crash, leading to the death of eight people which includes including two senior government ministers and other high-ranking officials.

The military helicopter, which took off from Accra in the morning, was flying to the Ashanti Region for an official event, “Launching of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme".
The Ghana Armed Forces stated that they lost contact with radar shortly after departure and was later confirmed to have crashed in a forest, which is deemed a remote part of the Adansi Akrofuom District.

All five passengers and three crew members onboard have been confirmed dead.
Among those who died are the Minister for Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Environment, Murtala Muhammed, a Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC, Samuel Sarpong, a senior national security coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and a former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye.
The three-member crew consisted of experienced personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces.
The government has declared a moment of national mourning with flags across the country flying at half-mast, and official duties have been suspended to honour the victims who perished.
Leaders have expressed condolences, deeming it a dark day in the history of Ghana.
The cause of the helicopter crash is being investigated, but initial assessments suggest a sudden technical failure.
The Air Force and aviation authorities are working to get the flight data and cockpit voice recordings for analysis.
Social media users have been advised to refrain from sharing disturbing footage of the crash out of respect for the victims and their families.

A video of the immediate reaction of individuals such as Frank Amoakohene, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and others as soon as they heard about the helicopter crash.
Armah-Kofi Buah was overwhelmed after Frank Amoakohene showed him the news on the phone, with both opening their mouths in awe.
The dead men were joining them shortly when this unforeseen circumstance occurred en route to the programme.
The incident changed the atmosphere of the event and emotions around the launch.

Ghana Army Helicopter Crash Claims Eight Lives
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a Ghana Army Z-9 helicopter crashed at Adansi Akrofum on August 6, 2025, killing all eight onboard, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
An eyewitness said the victims were burnt beyond recognition and that officials, including military personnel and the Ashanti Regional Minister, visited the scene to assess the situation.
