Police Arrest 2 TikTokers for Death Threats Against Mahama and First Lady

The Ghana Police Service has made two arrests in connection with a viral TikTok video in which threats were made against the president and his wife.

The police also said more suspects are being pursued.

In a statement, the police identified the first two suspects as Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu.

"The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigation into a viral TikTok video in which an individual is heard threatening the lives of the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady."
"So far, two people, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, are in Police custody assisting the ongoing investigation, while efforts are underway to get other persons believed to be connected to the video to assist the investigation."

YEN.com.gh reported that the former Electoral Commission Chair Charlotte Osei opened up about threats and personal challenges she faced during her tenure from 2015 to 2018.

She noted that the situation was particularly distressing for her family, who experienced significant emotional strain.

Osei was the first woman to serve as Electoral Commission chair but was removed under controversial circumstances and replaced by Jean Mensa.
