Asantehemaa’s Funeral Scheduled For September 14 to 18 at Manhyia

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, announced Sunday, September 14, to Thursday, September 18, as the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

These funeral rites will be held at the Manhyia Palace.

Joy News reported that the rites will be observed in line with Asante tradition.

Chiefs, queen mothers, dignitaries, and mourners from across Ghana and beyond are expected at the funeral.

There will be cultural displays, traditional mourning rituals, and homage-paying ceremonies during the funeral rites.

As part of preparations, the Asantehene announced a ban on all public gatherings, including funerals, outdoor events, and social activities, within Kumasi and its environs during the five days.

The Asantehemaa died at 98 years of age on August 7.

She was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

She marked her eighth year as the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom in February 2025.

Otumfuo gets emotional after Asantehemaa's death

YEN.com.gh reported that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II got emotional after the Asantehemaa's demise was announced on Monday, August 11, 2025.

In a video from a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene fought back tears as he mourned his late sister.

Whilst announcing the news of his sister's death, Otumfuo looked overwhelmed with emotion and saddened at the passing.
