Kwabena Adu-Boahene Says GH¢5.1m Was Used to Buy Vehicles and Handed to then President-Elect's Aide

The former Signals Bureau Director-General claimed that a portion of the money he had been accused of embezzling was used to purchase vehicles for the President-elect after the 2024 elections.

In a letter written from the EOCO cells, Kwabena Adu-Boahene claimed that the National Signals Bureau spent GH¢5,135,000 on vehicles for President John Mahama after he earned a second term.

He stated that the vehicles, including a 2024 Nissan Patrol Platinum and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR, were all purchased for the President-elect after the elections in 2024.

In addition to this claim, he noted that his outfit released some funds to support the 'opposition party' during the 2024 general elections.

Adu-Boahene noted that NSB gave a political party he named as the 'opposition' an amount of GH¢8,300,000 ahead of the 2024 elections.

As it stands, it is unclear whether he was referring to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the recipient.

Adu-Boahene's comment comes after he was accused of misappropriating $7 million belonging to the state. Reports indicated that he transferred the money meant for a state contract to his personal accounts.

He is alleged to have used the funds to buy properties, including houses and cars in Accra, Kumasi and outside of the country. He is currently facing 11 charges pressed against him by the Attorney General and is serving his seven-day remand in EOCO's custody as sanctioned by a court.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene charged with money laundering

Earlier, Yen.com.gh reported that three people, including Adu-Boahene were charged with causing the state financial loss.

The Attorney General alleged the accused stole over GH¢28 million under the pretext of procuring a cyber defence system.

Boahene and his co-accused face charges including conspiracy, defrauding by false pretences, and abuse of public office.
