Due to the intensity of the fire and the congestion in the area, reinforcements were called in from Legon, Abelemkpe, and the GNFS Headquarters, bringing the total number of fire engines deployed to five. Despite the swift response, several shops and kiosks were destroyed.

Among the worst-hit was a local trader who revealed he had recently taken out a loan to expand his small business, only for it to be reduced to ashes.
“Nana Ama McBrown, I listened to your advice and took a loan from Bill's Microcredit. Now, I'm faced with this unfortunate incident, and I have to pay back the loan with interest. Please come to my aid. I am not asking for too much. Any little support would be appreciated," he said in a video.
No casualties were recorded, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Churches should support victims of fire outbreak
In an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh, a Ghanaian pastor, Prophet Moses Benisan, urged churches
"It is the responsibility of churches to support their members, especially in times of disaster like this instance. Any form of support, be it financial, food, clothes, or anything, would be appreciated. Churches should not just be concerned about what they get from their members, but also be ready to support them," he said.
Netizens react to young man's plea for support
His emotional appeal has since gained traction online, with many sympathising with his situation and tagging McBrown, known for her generous support to individuals in need.
Others were also unhappy with the plea and criticised the young man for making the plea with McBrown while she's unwell.

Fire razes hostel room at UG
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a room in Jean Nelson Aka Hostel was ravaged by fire at midday after a student allegedly left an iron plugged in while attending lectures.
Similar fire outbreaks occurred in 2017 at the UG Medical School hostel and in February 2025 at the PDMSD building near Bush Canteen.
