A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter travelling to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025, has crashed.

The accident was confirmed by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, after the GAF reported the plane missing on Wednesday.

During a press conference held at the Presidency on August 6, 2025, Julius Debrah, confirmed that all eight persons onboard the plane had perished.

Obuasi helicopter crash: GAF announced craft missing

GAF confirmed the disappearance and said efforts were underway to find the helicopter. The army statement said eight people were on board.

That number included three crew members and five passengers. However, it was unclear whether the eight people survived the crash.

Who was on board crashed GAF helicopter?

The eight persons involved are Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru; Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong; and Former legislator Samuel Aboagye.

The army personnel involved in the crash were identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

During the press conference held at the presidency, Julius Debrah confirmed the passing of all the named persons. He also directed that all flags must fly half-mast as the nation mourns the passing of these eight persons.
