Eight people, including top government officials, have tragically lost their lives in a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter crash on August 6.
The sad incident occurred on Wednesday in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, when the helicopter was heading for Obuasi.

Two top government officials, Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, were onboard the helicopter.
Aside from these, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former legislator Samuel Aboagye, were involved in the crash.

Three army personnel, namely Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, were also on board.
Following the accident, photos of the pilot said to have been involved in the crash have surfaced.

Who piloted helicopter that crashed near Obuasi?
Squadron Leader Anala was the pilot carrying the team of eight to Obuasi. Until his demise, he was a commissioned officer rank in the air forces, specifically above Flight Lieutenant and below Wing Commander.
He was a KNUST alumnus who studied Computer Engineering at KNUST and pursued advanced aviation and safety training to serve Ghana with excellence.
He was enrolled in a UK postgraduate program in Safety and Accident Investigation, reflecting his dedication to aviation safety.
Details of the incident have not officially been confirmed; however, an eyewitness claimed the aircraft crashed into a tree. The pilot of the downed military helicopter reportedly left behind a two-month-old baby.

Eyewitness shares details of GAF helicopter crash
Earlier, YEN.com.gh also reported that a Ghana Army Z-9 helicopter carrying some top government officials was involved in a fatal crash at Adansi Akrofum on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
An eyewitness who was present at the accident scene has shared details of the Obuasi helicopter crash. Many who watched the video were heartbroken and sympathised with the families.
