On that day of the event, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said he received a call from someone else who informed him that Samuel Aboagye would be flying to Obuasi on a helicopter.
The former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, with a look of sadness, indicated that he never envisaged that the NADMO executive and others on that flight would lose their lives.
"Aboagye called me the night before and said there’s this program in Obuasi. He wants us to go together, me, Eddie Kwarteng, and him. I am the one who never gets up early. So I should sleep early and get up at 4 a.m. We shall drive to Obuasi. So, I asked my wife to wake me up. Unfortunately, he didn’t call. Normally, we drive through the Central Region Road. Now we are going to Obuasi. We don’t go through Kumasi; we always go through Mankessim.
"So, I was expecting that he would come to my house, and then we would go together. He didn’t come. Then we had a call; Adequate called and said Abu Aboagye said he wants to go by helicopter. We wish him well. We didn’t know this was going to happen. It’s unimaginable. It’s a moment of unimaginable loss," he said, looking sad."
