Obuobia Darko-Opoku, a close friend of Dr Omane Boamah, is mourning the loss of the late Defence Minister.

Obuobia, who shared a close bond with the Minister, could not contain her grief as she mourned him with a touching Facebook post.

The Ghanaian politician and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) questioned God in her post as she sought answers to why the unfortunate incident happened.

"Dear Lord… I have just one question… Why?🥹. Signed, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku," she wrote.

Obuobia Darko-Opoku has known Dr Omane Boamah for years. Over time, they grew fond of each other, both personally and professionally and shared a deep personal bond.

She affectionately referred to him as her "hugging partner" and was captured in photos hugging the Minister, who is now deceased.

Obuobia was pleased when the President appointed Dr Omane Boamah to head the Defence Ministry, and she attended his vetting to show her support.

Unfortunately, the Minister passed away in the tragic Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter accident, which claimed eight lives, leaving her broken.

Eight perish in tragic GAF helicopter crash

All eight people on board a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed on August 6, 2025, when the flight was on its way to Obuasi.

The victims of the crash were Dr Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, and the Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Murtala Muhammed.

Also, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former legislator Samuel Aboagye were involved in the crash.

Three army personnel, namely Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, were also on board.
