In a video on TikTok spotted by YEN.com.gh, the young man, known by the username @saveghananow, appealed to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to stop the alleged passport abuse.
He claimed that some foreigners obtained Ghanaian passports from the GIS and then travelled overseas to engage in illegal activities.
According to him, such actions could tarnish the nation’s global image and lead to severe consequences like blacklisting.

The man warned that Ghana could be blacklisted, with other countries denying entry to holders of the passports.
He added that this could also strain diplomatic relations due to the criminal behaviour of those involved. In his words.
"Ghana is on the red list of many countries, but it is just that it has not yet come into the public. Very soon, Ghanaian passport holders will become the most useless travellers in the world. Countries will start shutting their doors against Ghana."

How to obtain Ghanaian passport as foreigner
YEN.com.gh understands that for a foreigner to illegally obtain a Ghanaian passport, there are some criteria that must be met by the individual.
These steps are put in place to prevent foreigners with criminal intentions from becoming citizens of the nation.
To obtain a Ghanaian passport as a foreigner, one must first acquire citizenship through naturalisation or registration (e.g., marriage to a Ghanaian citizen).
Obtaining citizenship by naturalisation generally requires a period of residency (typically six years), evidence of good character, and the ability to contribute to Ghana's development.

According to the GIS, witness statements from two attorneys or public officials must also be provided.
Once citizenship is obtained, one can apply for a passport by submitting the required documents (including proof of citizenship and a digital address code), paying the application fee, and waiting for processing.
The specific steps involve completing an application form, submitting necessary documents, and potentially attending an interview.
