The king ordered an emergency meeting with his traditional rulers when rumours of the queenmother's passing first surfaced on social media on Friday, August 8.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was the king's biological sister, was enstooled as the 14th Asantehemaa in 2017.

She succeeded her mother and predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died on November 15, 2016, in her sleep, aged 109.

In the Asante hierarchy, the queenmother, second in authority only to the Asantehene, plays a crucial role in regulating the legitimacy of successors to the Golden Stool and ensuring adherence to customs and traditions.
