Eight die in helicopter crash near Obuasi

Samuel Aboagye was among the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash that occurred at the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi South District in the Ashanti Region.

The group was on board the flight heading from Accra to Obuasi to launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.

Two cabinet ministers were also aboard the aircraft: Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, and his colleague, Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah.

The Obuasi MCE, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, also detailed the conversation she had with Aboagye on the phone while he was in the helicopter before it crashed in the forest.

Speaking in an interview, she noted that the politician had informed her that he was en route to the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme event in Obuasi.

Faustilove Appiah Kannin expressed surprise when she later learned that the former Obuasi East NDC parliamentary candidate was among the deceased after arriving at the crash site.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh also reported that Samuel Sarpong had been in contact with his children after after boarding the doomed flight.

One of his children, in an interview, said his father had sent him and his siblings photos of those who were set to attend the event.

The child further disclosed that Sarpong had sent them a photo of himself aboard the Z-9 helicopter, confirming they had taken off.
