The Obuasi East constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a vigil on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, to mourn the eight individuals who lost their lives in the recent tragic helicopter crash.

The public ceremony brought a large number of individuals living in the constituency together to light candles and mourn the victims, including the late former NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Samuel Aboagye, a week after they tragically passed away.
NDC Chairman weeps at the vigil
During the vigil, the NDC Chairman for the Obuasi East constituency mounted the stage to pay his last respects to the eight victims.
Tears began to drip from the constituency party leader's eyes as he spoke about Samuel Aboagye, with whom he had a close relationship.
The NDC Chairman for the Obuasi East constituency later became overwhelmed with emotions and shed uncontrollable tears as he eulogised the late Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The man's colleagues, who stood beside him, consoled him as he stopped speaking and continued to mourn.

Samuel Aboagye, others die in helicopter crash
Samuel Aboagye was among the eight individuals who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The victims of the unfortunate incident were five political officials, including two cabinet ministers and three members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru, and the former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, were inside the helicopter when tragedy struck.
The victims were travelling to Obuasi for the official launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), an anti-Galamsey event, before their Z-9 helicopter crashed into a thick forest.
