Ghanaian journalist, Johnnie Hughes, has lashed out at some members of the opposition party for their "corrupt-minded" attacks on President John Mahama's recent travel arrangements.

YEN.com.gh understands that President John Dramani Mahama reportedly left the country on Sunday, August 17, 2025, on a two-nation official visit.
Reports, however, have it that he took a private jet as transportation, instead of the presidential jet or commercial flights.
The report has gathered many reactions from Ghanaians, especially members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who called out the president for using taxpayers money for private jet use.

Johnnie reacts to Mahama's private jet travel
In reaction to the reactions from NPP members, Hughes argued that they are determined to find fault no matter how the president travels;.
According to him, the opposition party will still beef the presidency whether on his brother, Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet at no expense to the state or on a commercial flight.

He described the criticisms as “desperate attempts” to equate the government’s current cost-saving measures with past wrongdoings of the former government.
He said that it was his brother's private jet that the president took, which he claimed was at no cost.
YEN.com.gh understands that the Ghana’s Presidential Jet, the Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy, has reportedly been grounded in France for about five months beyond its scheduled return date due to extensive maintenance issues.

Mahama flies to Sierra Leone in private jet
YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that President John Dramani Mahama travelled to Sierra Leone and met their president Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The president arrived at the Freetown International Airport in one of his younger brother Ibrahim Mahama's private jets.
