Dumsor to Hit Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta and Central Region

  • The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned maintenance exercise across five major regions on Wednesday, July 30, 2025
  • The maintenance will result in power outages in selected areas in Greater Accra, Tema, Volta, Ashanti, and the Central Region from 9 AM to 5 PM
  • ECG listed several affected communities and assured residents that the interruptions are necessary for improved service delivery

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will carry out scheduled maintenance across Greater Accra, Tema, Volta, Ashanti, and Central Region on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

This means that power outages will occur in selected areas across the regions above between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Below is the list of affected areas:

Greater Accra

New Bortianor, Red Top, Abease, Achiama, Ayikai Doblo, Tantra Hills, St. John Cluster of Schools, Mill 7, Market, Pig Farm, Kotobabi, Abavana, Accra New Town, Adjiriganor, Coconut Junction, Tse Addo, Anas Warehouse, Doryumu, Kordiabe, and their surrounding communities.

Tema

The following areas in Tema will experience power outages, popularly known as dumsor: Salvation Army, Abattoir, Youth With Mission, Nutri Food, Toyota Ghana Ltd, Underbridge, Klagon, and their environs.

Volta Region

In the Volta Region, Hodzo and its adjoining communities will also be affected.

Ashanti Region

The areas expected to experience dumsor in the Ashanti Region include Dominase, Behenase, Anwiankwanta, Ntonanko, Poano, Daa, Apaase, Senior, Senfi, Adjamako, Ofoase, Nampanse, Amansie, Aseibu, Anwiam, Amponnya, Sisikro, Asakyiri, Ahwiren, Estate, Damoanin, Bekwai Township, Esumeja, Asankare, Kokotro, and Subinso.

Central Region

According to ECG, emergency works will also take place in the Central Region between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

As a result, the following areas will be impacted: Fettercairn, Kakraba, Akrampa, Nkwantanang, and surrounding communities.

This prompted many people to charge their electronic devices in anticipation of the power outage.

However, when the announced date arrived, there was no power cut.

As a result, Ghanaian TikToker Akosua Diqson expressed disappointment that ECG did not follow through with their earlier announcement of a nationwide loadshedding exercise.

In her complaint, Akosua sarcastically questioned whether the electricity company saw her as a toy to be played with.

She said she had been waiting all morning for the power to go off, as announced by ECG, but nothing had happened.

"ECG, do you see me as a toy? Someone who has announced that today, you would turn off the lights, since morning I have waited and you have failed to turn them off," she said in the video.

16 communities connected to the national grid

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that residents of Asikantia and 15 nearby communities in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region received electricity for the first time.
