President John Dramani Mahama has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the 16 young people who tragically lost their lives in a recent road accident at Obogu in the Ashanti Region.
President Mahama expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, offering words of comfort to the bereaved families during this difficult time.

Speaking to YEN.com.gh in an interview, Ama Nsroma, counsellor and head of the Nsroma Consult, noted that the president's gesture of expressing condolences to the families of the victims was a significant show of empathy and compassion.

She believes that it acknowledged the pain and loss the families were going through and offered a sense of comfort and support during that difficult time.
The counsellor further added that the gesture could help the families feel seen and heard, and might provide some solace as they navigated their grief, reminding them that they were not alone and that their loss was being recognized by the leadership of the country.

What happened in road crash at Obogu?
On Monday, July 28, 2025, 16 members of the Saviour Church perished in a ghastly road accident, which included the children of the head pastor.
According to media reports, the accident, which occurred on the Juaso-Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway, also left four others wounded after a vehicle collided with a tanker.
A church elder, Kofi Baah, told Adom News that the group was returning from a youth event when the crash occurred.
“We rushed to the Yawkwei Steward Hospital after hearing the news, only to find out that our beloved members had passed away," he said.
He explained that the incident involved a collision between the vehicle carrying the church members and a truck transporting fuel.
Eyewitness reports revealed that a tyre on the tanker burst, causing the vehicle to veer off its lane and crash into the church members' vehicle.
Emergency response teams from the Juaso Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service from Konongo and Juaso quickly arrived at the scene to assist the casualties, who ranged in age from four to 21 years.

Obogu accident victims buried
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Obogu crash victims were laid to rest in a mass burial in the region, with the community and their family members mourning openly.
The 16 youths, who were members of the Obogu Saviour Church, were returning from a weekend church retreat when their minibus collided head-on with a fuel tanker.
