Muntaka Breaks Down in Tears After Helicopter Crash, Fiifi Kwetey Consoles Him

The Minister of Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has stirred sadness online after he shed tears following the death of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah died in a helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

He was one of eight people onboard - five government officials and three crew members - who perished in the flight.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a statement released on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, announced that a Z-9 helicopter with eight people on board had disappeared off radar and indicated that efforts were underway to find it.

Officials later found the helicopter had crashed in the Sikaman Forest near Obuasi, killing all occupants.

Aside from the defence minister, other confirmed civilian casualties were the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.

The military casualties were also identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Muntaka Mubaraka weeps over Omane Boamah’s death

The death of Dr Omane Boamah and seven others heavily affected the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak.

In a video seen by YEN.com.gh, Muntaka completely broke down in tears over the sad news.

He could be seen in bitter tears and was being consoled by Fiifi Kwetey and other high-ranking NDC officials.

Mahama sent Omane Boamah on Obuasi trip

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that President John Mahama was supposed to be on the crashed flight but cancelled at the last minute.

According to reports, Mahama was billed to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi.
