Omane Boamah Dies: Health Minister Moves Late Defence Minister's Ailing Mother to Accra
- Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has facilitated the transfer of late Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah's mother to Accra
- The transfer followed a visit by a government delegation to the bereaved mother's home in Koforidua following her son's passing
- She is expected to receive specialised medical care from a dedicated team designated by Akandoh as she mourns her only son

The mother of the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has been transferred from Koforidua to Accra, following her son's passing.
The relocation was recommended by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following a visit by a government delegation to the bereaved mother.

Omane Boamah, a past student of Pope John SHS (POJOSS) and a medical doctor, died in a devastating helicopter accident in the Sikaman Forest, located in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.
The Ghana Armed Forces aircraft caught fire upon impact, claiming the lives of Omane Boamah and seven other passengers, including Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.

The other government officials were Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, former Ashanti Regional Minister and current National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Vice Chairman Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East and the deputy coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Samuel Aboagye.
The crew consisted of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The delegation had been en route to Obuasi for the official launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP). Minister Boamah was serving as President John Mahama's representative at the event, after the President's last-minute withdrawal from the programme.
Government officials visit Omane Boamah's family
In the aftermath of the tragedy, government officials travelled to the Eastern regional capital to personally deliver the devastating news to the minister's family.
The high-level delegation was headed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah. It comprised NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi, Youth and Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and Chief of Defence Staff Major General William Agyapong.

The team arrived at Omane Boamah's mother's house around 17:00 GMT to meet scores of people who had come to mourn with the family. Many of the people broke down in tears at the sight of the delegation.
Minister moves Omane Boamah's mother to Accra
After the visit, the Health Minister suggested that Omane Boamah's mother be transported from her Koforidua Effiduasi home to Accra. She is expected to be given specialised care by a dedicated medical team arranged by the Health Minister.
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Akandoh's team was spotted ushering the late minister's mother into a black Toyota Land Cruiser.
The late Defence Minister's mother looked visibly shaken by the incident and had to be aided to walk out of her house into the car.
It is not yet known how old Omane Boamah's mother is; however, considering that her son would have turned 51 years old on December 26, 2025, she could be in her early 70s.
Citi FM reported that Omane Boamah was the only biological child of his mother.

Omane Boamah's fear of dying before mum
As the only child, Omane Boamah was believed to have been so close to his mother and even dreaded leaving her behind in this world, according to Sam George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and a close friend of the deceased.
In a tribute to his former boss and mentor, George indicated the late Defence Minister also wondered what the fate of his mother would be if anything happened to him.
"You always asked me who would take care of your Mum if anything were to ever happen to you...," parts of his tribute read.
Mahama speaks after Obuasi helicopter crash
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has addressed the nation for the first time following the Obuasi helicopter crash, which claimed Omane Boamah's life.
In his speech from the Jubilee House on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Mahama urged Ghanaians to unite as the country dealt with this national tragedy.
