'Omane Boamah Was My Senior in Medicine': Amoakohene Explains Connection With the Late Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, has shared the sorrow and pain he experienced after the tragic helicopter crash that occurred in Adansi Akrofuom, the Ashanti Region, that led to the demise of his mentor and senior, Edward Omane Boamah.

Referencing their bond, Frank Amoakohene described Omane Boamah as not just his senior in both medicine and politics, but also his mentor and guiding light.
“I stood for eight hours today, not to perform surgery or make diagnoses, but helplessly identifying the lifeless bodies of my mentor and seniors. It was a deeply painful moment beyond words.”

The regional minister also shared how their connection started in 2017, where Omane Boamah introduced him to John Mahama after supporting his bid for the NUGS presidency, a moment that started a relationship that would craft his life and career.
Amoakohene took to social media to write:
“Dr Omane Boamah was my senior in both medicine and politics, and more importantly, my mentor. I stood for eight hours today, not to perform surgery or make diagnoses, but helplessly identifying the lifeless bodies of my mentor and seniors, a deeply painful moment beyond words.”
“The first time I met the President was in 2017, when Dr. Omane introduced me to him after supporting my bid for the NUGS presidency. Since then, he has been a backbone and a tremendous support system in my journey.”
“I have lost more than a senior and a big brother.” He added
“The emotional tribute has touched many, highlighting the human impact of the national tragedy that shook the nation on August 6. “I have lost more than a senior and big brother,” he concluded.”

According to Al Jazeera, the crash happened while Dr Amoakohene was at the event the victims were en route to.
The news broke on the grounds, prompting him to visit the crash site to help recover and identify the bodies alongside emergency services and good Samaritans.
Amoakohene's tribute reflected not just the loss of a colleague but the misery of losing a mentor who had played a massive role in crafting his journey.
