A video showing the family of the late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, left behind, has surfaced after his death.

Murtala Muhammed, the former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, died on August 6, 2025, in a helicopter crash that occurred near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

He was part of a five-member government delegation headed to the mining town for a conference on tackling the scourge of illegal mining.

The team was being transported on a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 military helicopter to the venue when it disappeared off radar.

They were later confirmed to have crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Akuofrom district, killing all eight people on board.

Chief of Staff to the President, Julius Debrah, held a press conference at the Jubilee House to confirm the tragedy.

The civilian victims were identified as Murtala Muhammed, Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.

The military casualties were also identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The late Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, was survived by a wife and three children.

The Tamale Central MP’s wife typically kept a low profile but has been seen in public mourning his death since the crash on August 6.

On Sunday, August 10, she attended the funeral rites for Murtala and the other Muslim victim, Alhaji Muniru Muhammed, at the forecourt of the State House.

Mrs Murtala Muhammed looked distraught as she arrived in the company of a close friend.

In the aftermath of his death, a video showing the late Minister with his wife and children while alive has surfaced, stirring sad emotions on social media.

Information about Murtala Muhammed’s children is scanty, but he is believed to have at least three children, with other reports claiming he had four.

Omane Boamah’s wife mourns his death

Previously, YEN.com.gh also reported that Edward Omane Boamah’s wife looked devastated as she mourned his passing.

Rita Omane Boamah, who has not been spotted since the tragedy, struggled to hold back tears at the late minister’s residence.

Dr Omane Boamah was one of eight on board a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter that crashed on August 6, leaving none alive.
