Ashanti Regional Minister Confirms Significant Parts of Helicopter Returned After Tragic Crash

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed that parts of the military helicopter which crashed on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, have been returned.
This comes days after the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council appealed to residents of the Adansi Obuasi to return components of the Z-9 military chopper for a reward.

In a Facebook post on Monday, August 11, 2025, Dr Amoakohene also disclosed that other belongings from the helicopter have been retrieved.
He consequently expressed his gratitude to the youth of the community for returning parts of the aircraft.
"Thanks to the community Youth. Significant parts of the craft and other belongings have been returned. Still expecting more by close of day," he wrote.

Helicopter crash at Obuasi claims eight lives
The helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including five government officials and three military personnel.
The victims included Ghana's Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.
The crew members who also lost their lives are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
This unfortunate incident was confirmed at an emergency press conference by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House, Ghana's seat of government.
The helicopter was en route to an official event in Obuasi when contact was lost shortly after taking off from Accra at 9:12 am.

Helicopter makes emergency landing at Nkawkaw
YEN.com.gh also reported that a Volta River Aviation helicopter had made an emergency landing near the Nkawkaw bypass.
The incident had occurred days after a fatal military helicopter crash, raising concerns about the standards of Ghana’s aviation safety.
Eyewitnesses said the helicopter had hovered near a school before landing safely, with no injuries reported to the passengers or crew.
