The third-day funeral rites (Adua) in honour of the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Limuna, were held at his residence in Accra on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Alhaji Limuna was killed after a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Akuofrom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Muniru was one of eight individuals on the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter that was headed to Obuasi for an illegal mining event.

The helicopter temporarily disappeared from radar before it was found to have crashed into a dense forest.

The confirmed civilian casualties, aside from the Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, were defence minister Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye.

Three Air Force officers were killed, including Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Mahama brothers appear at Alhaji Muniru’s funeral

President John Dramani Mahama led a delegation from the government of Ghana to officially appear at the funeral of Alhaji Muniru on August 12.

The visit was to participate in the final rites and to extend the government’s condolences to the bereaved family.
