Speaking on Accra-based Angel FM, the NDC communicator claimed that NPP members had poured acid on the helicopter and presidential jet in a deliberate ploy targeted at President John Mahama.
He alleged that the opposition party had set several traps for President Mahama since his return to office and urged his party and government to be extra vigilant.
"The presidential jet that has been taken to France for repairs is replete with multiple faults. Everywhere they check, there's a problem. These NPP people have poured acid on the pipes, and they have all corroded. The presidential jet cannot be returned, and when the president uses his brother's private jet too, they complain.
"You have no idea how many traps these people have set for the president. We must stay vigilant. This is why they are insisting that the president use the presidential jet, which is replete with faults," he added.
Banahene's claims are best described as speculative, as the government and the Ghana Armed Forces have yet to release any report on the cause of the tragic helicopter crash.
