A crowd of mourners gathered in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, to eulogise Ghana's late Defence Minister.
Dr Edward Omane Boamah died in the line of duty in a tragic helicopter crash on August 6, described as Black Wednesday.

The region, where the late Defence Minister hailed from, held a vigil in his memory.
It was a moment characterised by prayers and sober reflection as mourners read out tributes for the statesman, who was described as selfless and a dedicated servant.
In attendance were the regional minister, party functionaries, past and present NDC MMDCEs, traditional leaders, clergy, organisational heads, party members, friends, and sympathisers.
Mourners were clad in black to show their grief and utmost respect.
Omane Boamah's family and friends pay tributes
His family, in a tribute, described him as kind and generous, becoming a light to them.
A tribute read by Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary described Dr Omane Boamah’s intelligence as exceptional during his school days.
His infrastructural contributions to the school were said to remain indelible in the minds of past, present, and future students.
A tribute read on behalf of the St George Catholic Cathedral, where he worshipped his creator, described him as kind and generous.
“His presence will be deeply missed. His kindness, love, and generosity towards the growth of the church will be missed.”
NDC in Eastern Region mourn Omane Boamah
A tribute by the NDC party, read by the Regional Chairman, Dr Mark Oliver Kevor, described Dr Omane Boamah as the party’s pillar in the region.
The party said that across all the constituencies in the region, he had demonstrated his unwavering support for the growth.
“You gave chances when others gave excuses. We have lost a friend whose laughter calms tension. Your generosity and kindness will remain our guide. The flame you lit will keep burning.”
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, spoke on behalf of the regional coordinating council, saying they were broken and devastated by his demise.
She described him as a beacon for future generations, who built bridges and mentored and nurtured many. He was one man with many talents.
She added that Dr Omane Boamah's commitment, compassion, and dedication to the work of the NDC party in the region were unwavering.
The minister maintained that his desire to end illegal mining in the region would remain a solid guide.
A tribute by Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Policy Adviser for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice-President, eulogised the late minister, saying, 'Who are we to question God?'

“The sun is refusing to shine because we are in a state of mourning.” He chanted, “Never again,” as he narrated the lessons learned from their two decades of friendship.
The clergy led a prayer to commit the souls of the departed into the hands of their Maker. Candles were later lit in memory of the departed.

Western Region mourns helicopter crash victims
YEN.com.gh also recently reported that the Western Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the House of Chiefs, held a vigil to honour the eight victims of the helicopter crash.
The event brought together security services, residents of Sekondi-Takoradi, and others. The funeral for six of the victims was set to take place on August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
