Ghanaian politician Kennedy Ohene Agyapong flaunted his immense wealth as he turned up at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters in a customised GMC Sierra pickup truck.

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central stormed the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to file his nomination forms to contest the party’s 2028 presidential primaries.

Supporters of the longtime legislator flooded the party office and created an atmosphere of jubilation as he became the second person to file their nomination for the January 31, 2026 election.

Veteran NPP politician, Ing Kwabena Agyapong, became the first individual to file their nomination forms when he also stormed the party headquarters with supporters on Tuesday, August 26.

Abetifi Member of Parliament, Bryan Acheampong, filed his nomination after Agyapong’s and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the frontrunner according to polls, has announced he would file his nomination on Thursday, August 28.

Kennedy Agyapong flaunts customised GMC truck

In a video seen by YEN.com.gh Kennedy Agyapong arrived at the NPP’s headquarters riding a new addition to his fleet of cars, a GMC Sierra 1500 truck valued at approximately $50,000.

The wealthy politician, who served as the Assin Central MP for six terms between 2000 and 2024, has been fingered by pundits as Dr Bawumia’s closest challenger.

His customised number plate, which read “KEN 2028-25”, delivered a clear message to Dr Bawumia, who defeated him in the 2024 NPP presidential primaries.

Agyapong’s choice of the number 2028 was interpreted to mean he would become president in that year, indicating his victory in the 2026 primary is assured.

Kennedy Agyapong's campaign questions Bawumia's electability

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Kennedy Agyapong's campaign questioned Dr Bawumia's ability to win the 2028 elections for the NPP.

Kennedy Agyapong’s spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng said that Dr Bawumia will not help the NPP if chosen as flagbearer because he is unmarketable.

He said delegates would cause irreparable harm to the NPP if they selected Bawumia as the party's flagbearer in next January's presidential primary.
