Benjamin Asare 'destroys' Nigerian striker with insane skill
The 32-year-old, now firmly established as the Black Stars' first choice, delivered a standout moment that had fans buzzing.
In a clip circulating widely online, Asare turned what looked like a dangerous situation into a showcase of composure and technical finesse.
Under pressure inside his own box at the GTech Community Stadium, Asare received a back pass while a Nigerian forward rapidly closed him down.
Rather than panicking or launching the ball upfield—as most would—he remained cool.
In a move that drew admiration from both sets of supporters, he dummied the advancing attacker, shifted the ball to his weaker foot, and calmly cleared his lines.
The moment, brief as it was, summed up how much the towering goalkeeper has evolved; not just as a shot-stopper, but as a modern-day ball-playing keeper.
Nigeria ends Asare's Black Stars' clean sheet record
Asare, who had not conceded a goal since making his debut in March, saw his unblemished record come to a crashing halt against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
He was undone by two defensive lapses, which threw the game in favour of Nigeria.
First, a Razak Simpson slip left him helpless, with Cyril Dessers making no mistake from close range to break the game's deadlock in the 14th minute, the BBC reports
Five minutes later, the Nations FC defender scored an unlucky own goal, which put the game beyond Otto Addo's men.
Despite a late surge and a Brandon Thomas-Asante strike in the 70th minute, Nigeria held on to seal a 2-1 win over the four-time African champions, per The Punch.
The defeat means Ghana has failed to beat their arch-rivals in their last five meetings across all competitions.
Fixtures for Unity Cup 2025

Fans chide Benjamin Asare after Black Stars defeat
In a separate publication, YEN.com.gh reported on fans flooding social media to vent their frustrations, turning their criticism toward Benjamin Asare.
While he was not entirely to blame for the two goals Ghana conceded, the towering goalkeeper left little to be desired in his overall performance.
One fan offered a brutal summary about Asare, "This is the real Benjamin Asare wai, local players are not good for Black Stars if you really want results."
