Ghana is in deep sorrow following the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two serving cabinet ministers.

The accident, which occurred in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, has left an entire nation heartbroken and searching for answers.

Dr Omane Boamah, 7 others die in helicopter crash

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the country's Minister for Defence, and Dr Murtala Mohammed, who served as the Minister for Environment, were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi.

They were part of a government delegation scheduled to attend an event aimed at tackling illegal mining in the region. Sadly, their journey was cut short when the aircraft went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what led to the fatal crash, as noted by the BBC.

In the wake of the disaster, a high-powered delegation led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia travelled to Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

Their mission was to officially inform the family of Dr Omane Boamah about his passing.

Sports Minister almost in tears

With them was the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddi Adams, whose emotional state spoke louder than words.

Walking ahead of government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Kofi Adams appeared visibly shaken, his face etched with grief, on the verge of tears.

The team proceeded to Effiduase, where they met the late minister’s family and offered their condolences.

Supporters of the party, relatives, friends and sympathisers had already gathered, mourning the loss of a man many respected deeply.

Scenes as the government delegation visits Dr Boamah's family.

The meeting lasted nearly an hour. When the officials finally emerged from the family home, their expressions told a painful story.

Meanwhile, Dr Omane Boamah’s mother was later moved to Accra to be with her late son’s widow during this difficult time.

Victims of the helicopter crash

According to Al Jazeera, the crash not only took two senior government figures but also claimed the lives of several others, each of them playing key roles in the country’s public service.

Among the deceased were:

  1. Limuna Muniru, Deputy National Security Coordinator
  2. Dr Samuel Sarpong, former Ashanti Regional Minister
  3. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East
  4. Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
  5. Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
  6. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

Respected football admin mourns Dr Boamah's death
