Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon shared his thoughts on the signing, saying, as quoted by the club's website:

"I had seen him play last year for Maldon & Tiptree a couple of times. We knew about his potential, and we are really happy that Colchester United and Danny Cowley have been in touch and have let us have him to help push his development.
He continued: "We hope what we did last year with the players we took on loan and aiding their development that we are getting recognised now, with clubs happy for us to have their players. We hope Sam can develop as the other boys did last year, and we're sure he can."

According to Ghanasoccernet, 24 hours after completing his loan move, Sam made his debut for the Urchins.

He stepped onto the pitch as a late substitute for Thomas Wraight during their National League South opener against Weston-Super-Mare.
