Kudus’ UEFA Super Cup dream ends in heartbreak
The Ghanaian international, making his competitive debut for the Lilywhites, looked on course for his first piece of silverware.
Tottenham were in complete control, holding a 2-0 lead and outclassing Paris Saint-Germain for most of the night.
The French champions, still licking their wounds from last month’s FIFA Club World Cup defeat to Chelsea, appeared second best.
But football, as Kudus quickly learned, can be cruel. The night began to unravel when Tottenham made the surprise decision to take Kudus off.

His departure coincided with PSG sending on Fabian Ruiz, Lee Kang-In and Goncalo Ramos, a triple substitution that turned the tide.
Lee found the net in the 85th minute, and Ramos stunned the North London crowd with an equaliser deep into stoppage time. From there, the momentum was all PSG’s.
The match went to penalties, and Spurs’ Mathys Tel saw his effort saved. PSG’s Nuno Mendes then hammered home the decisive kick, sealing the Super Cup for the Parisians.
It was a bitter blow for Tottenham, who had been chasing history. Victory would have made them the first Europa League winners to lift the Super Cup since Thomas Partey’s Atletico Madrid toppled Real Madrid in 2018.
How much Tottenham earned despite losing the UEFA Super Cup?
While the trophy slipped away, there was at least some consolation in the form of prize money.
As reported by The Sun, both teams earned £3.4 million simply for taking part.
PSG’s win added another £900,000 to their haul, taking their total to £4.3 million. Spurs, meanwhile, will settle for their £3.4 million share.
For a Premier League club, that sum may be small change, but it comes at a good time.
Tottenham are currently in talks with Manchester City over Brazilian winger Savinho and are reigniting their interest in Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, per TBR Football.
If Spurs manage to bring both Eze and Savinho on board, the attacking firepower on display against PSG could make them serious contenders for a top-six finish in the 2025–26 Premier League season.
Kudus eyes Premier League scalp against Burnley
For now, though, they must quickly shake off the Super Cup disappointment.
Their next test comes at home against newly promoted Burnley on Saturday, August 16 — and Kudus will be eager to make an even bigger statement.
