His absence from Tuesday’s PFA Awards, where he was named in the Team of the Year, further raised eyebrows. This summer, the former Real Sociedad striker opted out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Singapore and South Korea, citing a thigh injury, despite scans showing no clear issue.

He then spent a week training in isolation at his former club, Sociedad, an arrangement that manager Eddie Howe reportedly only discovered through media reports.

More recently, Isak has continued to train alone at the club’s facilities following the squad’s return. He was notably left out of a team social event, a club barbecue, after declining Howe’s efforts to bring him back into the group.
